There are so many nice beach towns and cities around the U.S. (and the world of course) that it can sometimes be difficult to decide where to go. I know that a lot of people stick to their favorite beach that they visit once a year with their families and friends But, for the others who like trying new places, the
amount of options can be overwhelming at times. How do you pick the best beach for you and your family or friends?
Well, to these types of people, I would definitely say that Destin, Florida is a safe bet. I was just there for the first time over the weekend and I can say that I really enjoyed my time there. Everything seemed “just right.” It is a touristic beach, but there are also places that are not commercial. The city is smaller, but it is still big enough to find a lot of fun things to do (water sports, mini-golf, and night clubs). The beaches are not crowded, but they are not deserted either. There are enough people to keep it lively, but not so many
that you can barely find a place to put your beach towel down.
I also have to say that the biggest attraction for me is that the beaches in Destin are really gorgeous. I have grown up mainly going to the South Carolina beaches, which are nice. But, you cannot really compare them to the white sand and the clear water beaches that you will find in Destin. I almost would rather
spend 10 more hours in the car and see the beautiful beaches of Destin than to drive for less time and be on the more normal looking beaches you find on the East Coast.
One area where Destin does not top the list for me is in the nightlife category. Destin is obviously a smaller city, and will therefore, not be able to compare to the bigger cities such as Miami or New Orleans that are known for their wild and crazy parties. Obviously, that does not mean you cannot have fun in Destin! We had a really nice time going out there! Just do not expect the same level of nightlife that you would get in a bigger city.
Overall though, I must say that Destin is a great city to take a vacation to. I am excited about this city and I am looking forward to going back at some point in the future! I guess that is what happens when you are a sucker for a really beautiful beach...
